Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Carden and Brennan Pace Women's Lacrosse During 10-9 Victory at Florida Tech

MELBOURNE, Fla. Junior Riley Brennan (Wilbraham, Mass.) and senior Cheyenne Carden (Branford, Conn.) notch four goals each to help pace American International College to a, 10-9, victory over Florida Institute of Technology in non-conference women's lacrosse action this evening from FIT Panther Stadium.

AIC (3-1) opened the scoring early with the first three goals of the contest before FIT (3-1) ended that streak to make the score 3-1 at the 23:29 mark. Senior Whitney McKay (Painted Post, N.Y.) scored just 39 seconds into the contest while Carden and Brennan added the third for the Jackets.

A little later, the Panthers used just 13 seconds to score a pair of goals to open a 5-0 run to grab the 6-4 lead at the midway point of the first half. Sam Schiano registered a pair of goals during that streak before Brennan would tip the hat-trick to end the run and get the Jackets back within a single goal at the 14:51 mark.

Carden then benefitted with a man-up situation to pot the equalizer at the 3:43 mark, but just 64 ticks later Sara Grenier gave Florida Tech the lead back at 7-6 before Carden struck again for the tie score with just under two minutes to play in the half.

Junior Stefanie Dufresne (Belchertown, Mass.) tilted the score back in favor of the visitors early in the second half before the Panthers took advantage of a man-up situation to pull even again at 19:29 for the 8-8 tie.

It was then FIT who took advantage of a penalty to score a man-up goal to grab the 9-8 edge at the 11:56 mark of the final half as Mary Gormley found the back of the net on a free-position shot. Brennan came right back and with patience was able to notch her fourth of the game off a great feed from McKay for the third tie of the second half with just 6:23 remaining on the clock.

It was then Carden with just 22 seconds remaining in regulation who tallied the winning score off a pass from Dufresne for the 10-9 final.

Junior net-minder Alexis Torosian (Hopkinton, Mass.) picked up the victory after stopping nine shots to improve to 3-1 as FIT held the slim 24-20 edge in shots including the 18-17 margin in shots on target.

The Jackets return north and will next battle Post University in their home opener next Tuesday at Ronald J. Abdow Field at 4 p.m.
