Women's Lacrosse Falls to No. 2 Le Moyne, 19-7

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. The American International College women's lacrosse team dropped a, 19-7, decision to no. 2 nationally ranked Le Moyne College this afternoon in Northewast-10 women's lacrosse action.

The Jackets fall to 5-2 on the year and 2-1 in conference play while the Dolphins improve to 5-0 overall and 2-0 in the NE-10.

Le Moyne wasted little time getting on the board as they scored just 26 seconds in and jumped to the 5-0 lead at the 23:56 mark. Freshman Bryanna Fazio (Watertown, N.Y.) scored a pair of goals over that span.

AIC came back fighting, however, and scored the next three goals as junior Jessica Lawler (Mexico, N.Y.) sandwiched a free-position goal between a pair of senior Cheyenne Carden (Branford, Conn.) tallies for the 5-3 deficit at the 9:53 mark.

Dolphin senior Maggie Monnat (Baldwinsville, N. Y.) followed with three consecutive goals of her own before freshman Mary Bates (East Longmeadow, Mass.) closed the first half scoring for the Jackets with a marker at the 2:46 mark for the 8-4 score at the intermission.

Le Moyne again jumped to a quick start to begin the second half needing just 17 seconds to score, but AIC had the answer as junior Stefanie Dufresne (Belchertown, Mass.) deposited the ball into the back of the net at the 27:22 mark for the 9-5 score.

The Dolphins took over after that scoring five straight and 10 of the last 12 goals to capture the victory. Dufresne added a second tally for AIC at the 19:39 mark and senior Kelly Reilly (Corning, N.Y.) closed the scoring for the hosts with a goal at 9:07.

Junior Alexis Torosian (Hopkinton, Mass.) absorbed the loss to fall to 5-2 on the campaign after making 14 saves.

AIC was outshot 36-20 and committed 20 turnovers to Le Moyne's 14 as the Phins also held the lead in ground balls (18-17) and draws (18-10).

The Jackets return to action as they travel to Pace next Wednesday for a 7 p.m. affair.
