SPRINGFIELD, Mass. The American International College men's lacrosse team fell to nationally ranked No. 2 Le Moyne College Tuesday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action at Abdow Field, 17-2.
With the loss AIC falls to 0-8 overall and 0-5 in league games, while with the win Le Moyne improves to 6-0 and 2-0 in NE-10 play.
The Yellow Jackets did what they could in the early going against one of the premier teams in the nation, holding the Dolphins to five goals in the first quarter. Le Moyne's top goal scorer Logan Thomas scored twice in the opening frame to move his season total to 16 in six games.
AIC found some offense in the second stanza, finding a goal from junior attacker Kevin Papineau (Westfield, Mass.). Papineau's scoring strike was unassisted and cut into the 10-1 'Phin lead. Le Moyne added two to go into the into the halftime huddle up 12-1.
Jacket sophomore Jack McIntyre (East Longmeadow, Mass.) scored first out of the break. The second-year attackman did it all in one play, forcing a Dolphin turnover, snagging the ground ball and turning it into his sixth goal of the season.
AIC allowed just five Le Moyne goals in the second half as AIC junior netminder John Magliano (Upton, Mass.) made 11 saves. Magliano was peppered with 54 shots as the Dolphins threw 30 more shots on net for the game. Luke Allen (Amherst, Mass.) picked up four ground balls to lead AIC. Senior Michael Palmieri (Guilford, Conn.) was 8-17 in face-off opportunities.
The Yellow Jackets return to action Saturday, Mar. 26 when they travel to Franklin Pierce University for a Norheast-10 Conference clash in Rindge, N.H. Game-time with the Ravens is slated to start at 12 p.m.
