SPRINGFIELD, Mass. The American International College men's lacrosse team dropped a Northeast-10 tilt with Saint Anselm College Saturday afternoon at Abdow Field, 25-11.
With the loss, AIC falls to 0-7 overall, while with the win St. A's improves to 3-0 and opens the NE-10 slate at 1-0.
Trailing 13-0 just 5:02 into the second quarter, Yellow Jacket sophomore Will Lewis (Middletown, N.Y.) turned over the Hawks and launched it ahead to classmate Jack McIntyre (East Longmeadow, Mass.) to get his team onto the scoreboard. The goal opened a 5-1 Jacket run with a pair of goals from Quinn Ceasar (Dalton, Mass.) and single strikes from Andrew Brown (Swanzey, N.H.) and Colton Larkin (Norwalk, Conn.). Larkin added another to end the second stanza, both his goals assisted by junior Kevin Papineau (Westfield, Mass.). AIC trailed 15-6 at the intermission.
The Hawks soared out of the break, registering six goals to AIC's one in the third quarter. Ceasar recorded a hat trick in the game.
Papineau who dished out three dimes got a goal of his own in the fourth along with freshman Lucas Bombardier (Pittsford, Vt.), McIntyre and John Magliano (Upton, Mass.).
McIntyre and Papineau notched four points apiece to lead the Jackets. Hawk James Olsen tallied eight points off five goals and three assists.
AIC freshman goalie Tariq Qureshi (Elmont, N.Y.) made 10 saves as St. A's outshot AIC 52-32.
The Yellow Jackets return to action Tuesday, Mar. 22 at home against Le Moyne College. Game-time with the Dolphins is slated for 1 p.m.
