Pioneers travel to Springfield for showdown with men's basketball

The American International College men's basketball team will host LIU Post in its first home game since November 22.

LAST TIME OUT: The Yellow Jackets took on a hot-shooting Pace team on November 30 and dropped the game 77-66. Bruce Spruell led the Yellow Jackets with 16 points and also chipped in four rebounds and three assists. Javyon Pitts-Young had 13 points, four rebounds, and two assists. Freshman Zekiah Owens had a career-high 11 points and also pulled in five rebounds.

The Pioneers overcame a 12-point deficit against Daemen College with 7:26 left in the game to force overtime. They took care of business and took the game in overtime, 73-70. Greg Dotson had a game-high 24 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.

LAST TIME THEY MET:The Yellow Jackets and Pioneers last met in the 2014-15 season on November 16, 2014. The Yellow Jackets took the win at the LIU Post Invitational by a score of 77-63. Marcus Porter and Bobby Harris each had 23 in the performance. Porter also had five assists in 39 minutes of play. Trahmier Burrell took the lead in the rebounding category as he pulled down 13 and had eight points.

WHO TO GUARD:The Yellow Jackets have been a diverse team this season as they have had five different leading scorers. Juwan Moody opened the season with 21 points against Bridgeport. Pitts-Young took the next two games with 17 and 13. Tahlib Swan led the Yellow Jackets against Adelphi with 23 and then 19 against Holy Family. Bruce Spruell had 24 points against the Owls of Southern Connecticut State and 16 against Pace. The leading scorer in the Goldey-Beacom game was Justin Daniel with 18.

SWAN AT THE LINE:In the national standings, Tahlib Swan is 14th in free throws attempted and 16th in free throws made. He is currently 42-for-58, 72.4%.

FIRST WIN AT HOME:The Yellow Jacketsare looking to celebrate a win on their court for the first time this season. The Yellow Jackets have only played two home games this season and hope that the third time is the charm. The Yellow Jackets' two wins this season came against Holy Family on November 13 and 26.

NEXT UP:The team will continue its homestand on Saturday, December 6 when it hosts Le Moyne in a Northeast-10 conference game. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
