NEW YORK, New York- The American International College men's basketball team wrapped its three-game road swing in New York City for a game against the Setters of Pace. The Yellow Jackets dropped the game 77-66.
The Yellow Jackets jumped into the lead 13 seconds into the game, but the Setters hit from behind the arc to take the 3-2 lead. The Setters had the hot hand early, as they hit four of their first five three-pointers and jumped out to a 16-11 lead. There was a little over five minutes left in the first when
Bruce Spruell knocked down a jumper in the paint to give the Yellow Jacket the 26-25 lead. The Setters went on a 7-0 run and took the 33-26 lead into the locker room.
The Setters' largest lead of the night came at the 13:50 mark on a three that made it a 16-point game, 52-36. The Yellow Jackets started to chip away at the lead. Spruell made a layup and drew the foul as he finished the old-fashioned three-point play to make it an eight-point game in favor of the Setters. Six points is the closest that the Yellow Jackets got as the Setters took the game, 77-66.
Spruell had a team-high 16 points and added four rebounds with three assists.
Jayvon Pitts-Young earned all of his points at the free throw line as he went 13-for-15. He also had four rebounds and three assists.
Zekiah Owens put up a career-high 11 points, five rebounds, and two steals.
The Yellow Jackets return to action on Saturday, December 3 when they host LIU Post at 3:30 p.m.
