Second Straight Home Shutout For Yellow Jackets

SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts- The American International College football team returned home the weekend before homecoming. The Yellow Jackets took on the Skyhawks of Stonehill in an impressive defensive game, as they recorded their second straight home shutout to go with 19 points from the offense.

On the Yellow Jackets' second drive, Christopher Boteler put one through the uprights to give the Yellow Jackets the 3-0 led just three minutes in. The Skyhawks were set to punt on a 4-and-1 from their own 25 when, when their punter tried to run for a first down, but Witche Exilhomme brought him down shy of the line.

With 2:34 left in the first quarter, Ju'an Williams caught a two yard touchdown pass from Joseph Czelusniak to finish a five play 25-yard drive.

In the second quarter, Czelusniak connected on a pass to Lennox Green Jr. The 56 yard completion was the longest for the Yellow Jackets on the season. The next play, Willams was targeted once again by Czelusniak from 17 yards for their second touchdown connection of the day. As both teams headed into the locker room, the Yellow Jackets had the 16-0 lead.

After forcing a four-and-out to start the third quarter, the Yellow Jackets started their drive on the Skyhawk's 24 yard line. Three plays later, Boteler added to the Yellow Jacket led to make it a 19-0 game and close out the scoring.

Czelusniak threw for 151 yards while going 11-25 passing with two touchdowns. Willie Brown ran for 57 yards on 22 carries. Green Jr. had one reception for 56 yards, while Ju'an Williams caught five passes for 53 yards and two touchdowns. Jerrod Shelby led the Yellow Jackets in tackles with 14, including one tackle for loss of five yards. Danny Omoregie recorded 13 tackles with a sack and a half. Devonte Dillion and Robert Skinner each recovered a fumble, while Dillion also picked off the Skyhawk quarterback.

Shelby also matched his season high tackle total of 14. Daquan Holmes and Omoregie tied Cyriacus Ibezim for the most sacks in a game this season with 2.5 each.

The Yellow Jackets will face Bentley University next Saturday in the homecoming game. Kickoff is scheduled for noon. A schedule of the weekend festivities can be found here.
