The American International College field hockey team seeks their tenth win of the year as they visit the Merrimack Warriors in a critical conference matchup.

LAST TIME OUT:The Yellow Jackets scored twice in the first half and held on for a 2-1 win over Pace. Rookie Paris McGuckin scored her first collegiate goal, while senior Emma Heroth provided what proved to be the decisive tally late in the first half on a blast from the left side of the circle. Pace pressed late in the game and managed to get within one, but the defense held the Setters off until the final horn.

Merrimack had their best offensive output of the year, slamming in ten goals in a wild 10-4 rout of Southern Connecticut. Rylie Hammond opened the scoring just 1:41 in and by the 45:20 mark she had a hat trick and her Warriors had a 7-0 lead. But the Owls persisted, scoring four goals in a 9:08 span to make what seemed a sure blowout into a game. However, over the final ten minutes, Merrimack added three more goals, with Hammond finishing her quartet of tallies to close out the scoring. Merrimack took 51 shots in the game, putting 36 on goal; Owl keeper Brianna Craft had 21 stops.

LAST TIME THEY MET:A late first-half surge was enough to put the Warriors up for good as they overcame a second-half comeback bid to beat the Yellow Jackets 3-2 on October 10, 2015. Hammond had a goal and an assist in the first half, and Lindsay Dobecki had two goals in the final 1:09 of the frame. Ainslee Penfield '16 led the comeback effort for AIC in the second half with a goal and an assist, but the Yellow Jackets came up short.

A PERFECT TEN:The 2016 squad has a chance to become the fourth team in program history to reach double digits in the win column. The previous three have all come in the last seven seasons, with the 2010 squad setting the high-water mark at 14, and the 2011 and 2014 teams reaching 12 wins.

SHE'S A KEEPER:Katharina Ohmen and Taylor Ross have posted outstanding seasons for their respective squads. Merrimack's starter has allowed just nine goals, the least among starting goalkeepers in the conference, while Ross is third with 11 goals allowed and second in GAA at 1.06.

NEXT UP:The Yellow Jackets host Assumption Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m. in a Northeast-10 Conference contest.
