The American International College field hockey team hosts Assumption College in a Northeast-10 Conference matchup.
LAST TIME OUT: AIC upended Merrimack in double overtime,
winning over the Warriors 2-1. Sophomore midfielder
Anna King scored the tying goal at 42:00, and freshman midfielder
Enara Foncea had the winner in the second extra session, scoring in the ninety-first minute of play for AIC's first win against the Warriors in seven games. Sophomore goalkeeper
Taylor Ross made 11 saves in the win. The victory propelled AIC back to the top of the NE-10 at 6-1.
Assumption took advantage of a three-goal second half outburst
to topple Southern New Hampshire 4-1. Belle Ives had two goals and an assist in the win. After Ives had the opening goal in the ninth minute, the Hounds scored three goals in 3:52 in the second half, with Kristin McCarthy, Meghan Sullivan, and Ives each tallying between the 38:50 and 42:22 marks. Southern New Hampshire broke the shutout in the sixty-sixth minute for the 4-1 final, but the Penmen were outshot 27-5.
LAST TIME THEY MET: Assumption handed AIC their worst loss of the campaign,
a 5-0 defeat in non-conference action on September 29. A relatively even first half saw Assumption exit with a 1-0 lead on a thirty-first minute goal by Sullivan, but the second frame was all Greyhounds as McCarthy, Allison Sheahan, Ives, and Andrea Koslowski all scored in a 13:05 stretch to turn the game into a rout. The Jackets were outshot 12-2 in the frame and allowed seven penalty corners.
DAVIS DOES IT ALL: Rookie back
Chelsea Davis continues to impress, earning her second
Northeast-10 Defensive Player of the Week accolade. It is her third weekly award, as she won Rookie of the Week in the first week of the campaign. She picked up an assist and two defensive saves against Merrimack, giving her five defensive saves on the year, the most in the country. On her own, she has as many or more defensive saves as eighteen of the thirty other Division II field hockey teams.
TABLE TOPPERS: October 11 marks the latest calendar date in the history of Yellow Jackets athletics to have both field hockey and women's soccer in first place in Northeast-10 Conference play. Women's soccer is 7-2-0 in conference matchups, while field hockey is 6-1.
NEXT UP: AIC hosts the Hawks of Saint Anselm as part of Homecoming on October 15 at 5:00 p.m. on Abdow Field.
