The American International College women's soccer team heads to Vermont for a Northeast-10 Conference battle with Saint Michael's College.
LAST TIME OUT: The Yellow Jackets won a 1-0 defensive struggle with the Merrimack Warriors on a late own goal by Merrimack. In the eighty-eighth minute, sophomore forward
Johanna Englund's cross-field pass seeking classmate
Isabella Burns was deflected into the net by a defender who was trying to block the pass, and wound up as the only goal of the game. Sophomore goalkeeper
Madison Brown collected her third clean sheet of the season with five saves.
The Purple Knights were dominated
in a 3-0 loss to #5 Stonehill, surrendering two first half goals and one in the later frame. Elizabeth Nerger and Madalyn Fernbach had a goal and an assist each for the Skyhawks, who outshot Saint Michael's 16-3 and 7-0 in shots on target.
LAST TIME THEY MET: AIC
cruised to a 4-0 victory over the Purple Knights in Springfield on October 6, 2015. The opening goal, which proved to be the decisive tally, was scored on a bang-bang play off of a corner by sophomore forward
Federica Frew.
Alyssa Werbicki '16 added a goal just over five minutes later and then opened the scoring in the second half, and the final goal of the contest was an own goal in the eighty-fourth minute. Senior back
Brianna Kenney had an assist in the game, and
Rachel Edgin '16 made one save for the shutout.
SEVENTH HEAVEN: AIC is 6-0-0 in Northeast-10 play, the deepest into conference play the team has gone without a loss or draw since the 2013 team started 7-0-0 in conference. That squad was the one which advanced to the NCAA Tournament Semifinals and set the record for wins in a year at 18.
NINETY-NINE AND COUNTING: For Head Coach Kevon Isa, today presents a chance for a personal milestone. Since he joined the coaching staff as an assistant twelve seasons ago, the Yellow Jackets have won 99 games overall. Isa would be the first coach in program history to reach 100 wins as a member of the staff in any capacity.
NEXT UP: AIC returns home Friday night to battle the Owls of Southern Connecticut State at 7:00 p.m.
