The American International College field hockey team looks to get back on track as they return to conference play with a match at the Adelphi Panthers.
LAST TIME OUT: AIC had a six game winning streak snapped with a 5-0 loss at Assumption. The Greyhounds scored the only goal of a relatively even first half, but then struck four times in the second frame to run the score up. The contest did not count for conference records.
Adelphi scored three in the first 16 minutes and never looked back,
crushing Southern Connecticut State 6-1 in their last contest. Elizabeth Mercuri had a goal and two assists, while Lena Pollich had two tallies in the victory. Adelphi outshot Merrimack 27-11, including 20-6 in shots on target.
LAST TIME THEY MET: AIC scored twice in each half
to earn a 4-1 win over Adelphi in Springfield earlier this season. Junior midfielder
Payton Montague scored twice, and senior forwards
Taylor Ruscillo and
Emma Heroth each added goals for the Yellow Jackets. Adelphi broke the shutout late on a goal by Elissa Frein.
BEST START EVER: Despite the setback two nights ago in Worcester, the 8-2 start for the Yellow Jackets is the best the field hockey team has ever posted through ten games in a season. Only five times in program history has the team ever won eight games in an entire season, all of those coming since the 2010 team had a program-best 14 victories and reached the NE-10 and NCAA Tournaments for the first time.
DAVIS DOES IT ALL: Freshman back
Chelsea Davis has dominated both ends of the field for AIC. No player on the Yellow Jackets has more shots on target than Davis with 13, and she has all three of the team's defensive saves this season as well.
NEXT UP: AIC returns home Wednesday night to host Pace at 7:00 p.m.
