Men's Basketball Falls At SNHU, 82-64

MANCHESTER, N.H. The American International College men's basketball team fell for the first time in six games, dropping a Norheast-10 road decision at Southern New Hampshire University Sunday afternoon at SNHU Fieldhouse, 82-64.

With the loss AIC falls to 6-8 overall and 2-6 in NE-10 contests, while with the win SNHU improves to 10-5 and 6-3 in conference action. The loss ends the Yellow Jackets five-game win streak.

AIC used a 6-2 run at the end of the first half to take a 41-37 lead into the break. Sophomore Nolan Woodward (Montreal, Quebec) hit back-to-back buckets for the Jackets, while senior Cameron Dobbs (Albany, N.Y.) ended the first frame with a layup to put his team up by four heading into halftime.

Out of the break, the Penmen took the lead 1:49 into the stanza with a Devin Gilligan lay-in and opened an 11-0 run to grow the lead to double figures early in the half, 53-43. AIC senior Oscar Assie (Ansonia, Conn.) stopped the run, hitting a pair of free throws, but SNHU went running again, extending their advantage to as many as 19, 69-50, with 7:45 to go in regulation.

The Yellow Jackets shot 43.6 percent from the floor for the game and allowed the Penmen to shoot 4.0 percent, but the big difference was allowing SNHU 21 points off turnovers and an 18-2 difference in second chance points.

Dobbs, Woodward and junior Juwan Moody (Pontiac, Mich.) all registered 11 points, whil senior Trahmier Burrell (Albany, N.Y.) chipped in 10 points. Chris Walters and BJ Cardarelli combined for 55 Penmen points in the winning effort.

The Yellow Jackets return to action Wednesday, jan. 16 at home when they play host to Franklin Pierce at Butova Gymnasium in a NE-10 clash. Tip-off with the Ravens is slated for 7:30 p.m.
