WORCESTER, Mass. The American International College volleyball team split in the final day of Assumption Greyhound Tournament, sweeping Nyack, 3-0, and dropping a 3-1 decision to Bloomfield Saturday afternoon.
With the split, AIC opens up at 2-1 overall.
In the days opener, the Yellow Jackets made quick work of Nyack led by eight Natalija Dordevic (Belgrade, Serbia) kills. AIC dropped the Warriors in straight sets; 25-15, 25-18 and 25-9.
Sophomore libero Mercy Rivera (Canovanas, P.R.) served up seven aces, while classmate Amanda Encinas (Whittier, Calif.) recorded 15 assists in a match where the Warriors made 21 errors and hit -.039.
Despite 40 Encinas assists and 19 Dordevic kills, American International fell to Bloomfield in the finale; 25-15, 11-25, 20-25 and 18-25.
Encinas eclipsed 40 assists in 2-of-3 matches over the weekend tourney and is averaging 8.86 assists-per-set. Dordevic is also off to a fast start, averaging 4.36 kills in her first three matches with the Jackets.
Senior Bailey Swan (Belvidere, Ill.) chipped in 11 kills and hit a team-high .389 for the match. Dordevic made the final two kills of the first set to cap the Jackets lone win.
AIC returns to action Friday, Sep. 11 at the Wildcat Invitational against host Wilmington (Del.) at 1 p.m. The Yellow Jackets will also face Chestnut Hill, Holy Family and Caldwell.
