Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Falls to Bloomsburg, 1-0, In Non-Conference Affair

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. The American International College men's soccer squad dropped a hard-fought, 1-0, decision to Bloomsburg University in non-conference this afternoon from Steph Petitt Stadium.

With the setback AIC falls to 3-4-3 on the year while the Huskies improve to 9-2.

A back-and-forth first half saw the unfamiliar opponents feeling each other out and the Jackets nearly got on the board in the 31st minute as sophomore Lamar Grogan (Toronto, Canada) headed one toward net that was turned aside keeping the game 0-0 at the half.

Senior Ed Sharman (Tunbridge Wells, England) made a bid for the opening goal in the 53rd minute, but his shot was turned aside and out of harm's way.

Husky sophomore Anthony Cerda (Budd Lake, N.J.) then had a solid scoring chance in the 56th minute but his blast clanked the crossbar as the game remained scoreless.

However, five minutes later it was Cerda who set up sophomore Austin Transue (Langhorne, Pa.) for a header score, his sixth of the season, and the 1-0 edge.

Senior Alec Cerquiera (Peabody, Mass.) nearly netted the equalizer in the 79th minute, but his bid was stuffed by sophomore Taylor Lesage (Collegeville, Pa.) keeping the one-goal advantage for the hosts.

Junior keeper Sebastian Tamayo (Stratford, Conn.) recorded six saves while his counterpart, sophomore Jared Ott (Philadelphia, Pa.) stopped three shots before being relieved Lesage who made one savs over the final 38 minutes of play to record the victory.

AIC was outshot on the afternoon 11-6 (7-4 SOG) while each team registered one corner kick.

The Jackets remain on the road as conference play resumes on Saturday with a 1 p.m. tilt at Saint Michael's.
