COLCHESTER, Vt. American International College senior forward Ed Sharman (Tunbridge Wells, England) struck for a first half goal, but host Saint Michael's downed men's soccer in a Northeast-10 match in overtime Saturday, 2-1.
With the loss AIC falls to 3-5-3 this season with an NE-10 mark of 1-3-3, while with the win St. Mike's improves to 6-5-0 overall and 4-4-0 in conference matches.
Sharman registered his second goal of the season on a low shot outside the 18 yard box to the right post in the 38th minute of play. Classmate and countryman Frazer Cronin (Bromley, England) assisted the goal to put AIC up a goal heading into the intermission.
St. Mike's wasted no time out of the halftime speech on finding a game-tying goal. Aaron DaCosta netted his sixth of the season off a Yellow Jacket team save. Matt Vlasich had the initial shot that DaCosta corralled and rifled into the back of the net.
For the fifth time this season the Yellow Jackets and their opponent could not figure out a victor in regulation.
Unfortunately for AIC, the Purple Knights found the back of the net first to end it. The Purple Knights capitalized off a free kick with a diving header at the right post.
Sharman led the team with three shots on target as AIC outshot St. Mike's, 13-10. Yellow Jacket senior goalie Sebastian Tamayo (Stratford, Conn.) made five saves in the losing effort.
AIC returns to action Tuesday, Oct. 13 at home against NE-10 foe Stonehill, slated to start at 7 p.m. at Abdow Field.
