Volleyball Rallies To Defeat Warriors, 3-2

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. The American International College volleyball team rallied for a five-set Northeast-10 road victory at Merrimack Friday night.

With the win AIC improves to 10-9 overall and evens out at 4-4 in NE-10 matches, while with the loss Merrimack falls to 8-11 and 3-5 in conference matches.

After taking the first set, 25-18, the Warriors outlasted the Jackets in the second and third set 23-25, but AIC rallied for 25-22 and 15-8 finish for the thrilling NE-10 win.

The Warriors tied it up in the fourth at 22 all, but AIC recorded the final three points with kills by junior outside hitter Natalija Dordevic (Belgrade, Serbia) and sophomore Ayana Knowles (-) and a Merrimack error.

Yellow Jacket freshman Roxana Wenger (Giph-Oberfrick, Switzerland) who opened up the final set with a pair of points, helped her team win the match, serving three straight points late finished off with kills by Dordevic and freshman Diva Rivas-Reyes (Tucson, Ariz.).

AIC has shown grit in long matches, moving to 3-1 in five-setters with their lone loss to NE-10 leading Adelphi.

Dordevic registered 23 points and hit .392 for the match. Rivas-Reyes also hit over .300 (.302) and notched 17 kills.

Wenger recorded her third straight 50-plus assist night, tallying 51 in the winning effort. Sophomore libero Mercy Rivera (Canovanas, P.R.) led the match with 32 digs.

AIC returns to action Tuesday, Oct. 27 when they travel to Southern Connecticut for a 7 p.m. match in New Haven, Conn.
