SPRINGFIELD, Mass. The American International College women's soccer team saw their eight game unbeaten streak come to an end with a, 2-0, setback to No. 13 nationally ranked Adelphi University in Northeast-10 action this afternoon from MassMutual Soccer Field.
With the loss AIC falls to 10-5-1 overall and 8-3-1 in the NE-10 while the Panthers improve to 12-2-2 on the year and remain unbeaten in conference play with a 10-0-2 record.
Adelphi started the scoring in the 29th minute as junior Victoria Antonino (Howard Beach, N.Y.) received a pass from classmate Kelsey Simpson (Bellmore, N.Y.) and found the back of the net for the 1-0 edge.
The Panthers continued to control possession throughout the first-half and to start the second when they added to their lead as the same combination struck again in the 55th minute.
Simpson tapped the ball forward into the box where Antonino fired a rocket into the upper left corner for the 2-0 advantage.
The Adelphi defense controlled the Jackets all afternoon as they did not allow a single shot on goal as freshman Anne Marie Ulliac (Edmonton, Alberta) wasn't called upon to make a save as she recorded her eighth shutout of the season to improve to 12-2-2 overall.
Graduate student Rachel Edgin (Whitesboro, N.Y.) took the loss to fall to 10-5-1 after stopping six shots.
The visitors led in shots 16-3 (8-0 SOG) and also held the 3-0 margin in corner kicks.
AIC returns to action Monday as they travel to Stonehill for a 3:30 p.m. afternoon tilt.
