EASTON, Mass. Freshman Federica Frew (Melbourne, Australia) potted a pair of goals while classmate Johanna Nilsson (Ulricehamn, Sweden) added a goal and an assist to help lead American International College to a, 4-1, victory over Stonehill College in Northeast-10 women's soccer action from Skyhawk Field.
AIC gets back to their winning ways and improves to 11-5-1 on the year and 9-3-1 in the NE-10 as they go a perfect 7-0 in conference road matches on the year. Stonehill drops to 3-9-4 overall and 2-7-3 in league play.
Nilsson nearly put the Jackets on the board early as she blasted one off the crossbar, however, Frew found herself in the right place at the right time as the rebound found her feet and she chipped it over the keeper into the left corner for the 1-0 edge in the 5th minute.
It was Frew again in the 26th minute tilting the advantage to 2-0 as she received the ball at the top of the box from junior Jessica Margaretta (Coloniers, France), she then spun her defender and fired into the left corner for the score.
Then sophomore Taylor Souza (New Bedford, Mass.) passed the ball into the box to find freshman Taylor Kue (Providence, R.I.) and the rookie chipped the ball over the goalie's head for her first career goal and the 3-0 edge in the 41st minute.
Nilsson continued her stellar play as of late to extend the lead early in the second half as she received another great pass into the box by Margaretta and beat the keeper on the near post for the 4-0 margin in the 53rd minute.
The Skyhawks did manage to get on the board as junior Andrea Mancuso (Highland Mills, N.Y.) received the ball on the left side of the box and blasted top left corner beating graduate student Rachel Edgin (Whiteboro, N.Y.) for the 4-1 deficit in the 72nd minute.
Edgin collected five saves on the afternoon to improve to 11-5-1 on the season while her counterpart, junior Jamie Block (Georgetown, Mass.) stopped three shots to fall to 3-9-4 with the setback.
American International held the 14-11 edge in shots including the slim 7-6 advantage on target while the hosts collected the 5-2 margin in corner kicks.
AIC closes out the regular season on Wednesday as they welcome Bentley to Ronald J. Abdow Field for a 7 p.m. affair to celebrate Senior Night.
