ALBANY, N.Y. The American International College men's soccer team was dealt a, 2-0, setback by The Saint Rose Golden Knights in Northeast-10 men's action this evening from Sullivan Field.
The Yellow Jackets fall to 4-6-4 on the year and 2-4-4 in the NE-10 with the setback while Saint Rose improves to 6-6-1 overall and 5-4-1 in league play.
Saint Rose opened the scoring in the 37th minute as freshman Ryan Rooney (Ardee, Ireland) stole the ball from a defender and dribbled around the left end line to beat the keeper from 10 yards out for the 1-0 halftime advantage.
AIC had a great bid early in the second half to grab the equalizer as senior Kevin Milla (Lyndhurst, N.J.) crossed the ball to the far right post where it was headed by senior Jason Burnusuz (Westfield, Mass.) and junior Lasse Olrik (Copenhagen, Denmark) sent a header on net toward the left post, but senior Colan Balkwell (Schaghticoke, N.Y.) made a diving stop to preserve the lead in the 55th minute.
The Golden Knights added to their lead, however, in the 62nd minute as sophomore Nathan Brown (Scarborough, Ont.) received a great cross to the front of the box on the right and headed it home just inside the near post for the two-goal margin.
Saint Rose extended the lead further in the 80th minute as off a free-kick into the box from the left side the ball deflected off a Jacket defender trying to make a play and went into the net for an OWN GOAL and the 3-0 edge.
The Knights held the 12-11 advantage in shots (6-3 SOG) while AIC held the slim lead in corner kicks 5-4
Junior keeper Sebastian Tamayo (Stratford, Conn.) took the loss after stopping three shots while Balkwell made three saves in the victory.
American International returns home for their next contest as they will celebrate Senior Day on Ronald J. Abdow Field with a 6 p.m. Saturday contest against Le Moyne.
