Paige goes the distance, shuts out Pace, 1-0

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. American International sophomore right hander Harrison Paige (Springfield, Mass.) threw a complete game shutout against Pace University Saturday afternoon in a Northeast-10 tilt at AIC Park, 1-0.

With the win AIC improves to 13-22 overall and 6-17 in the NE-10, while with the loss Pace falls to 11-20 and 5-15 in conference play.

With two outs and two in scoring position, Paige (4-3) pitched out of the jam to preserve the shutout and win by getting Alexander Rough (Stamford, Conn.) to ground out to third base.

Paige struck out three, allowing six hits and walking one, recording his third complete game this season and second complete game shutout for the second year starter. He lowered his earned run average to 2.09 in 64.2 innings.

All it took was one run that came in the second. Freshman third baseman Justin Carey (Cranston, R.I.) singled to right, plating left fielder Tyler Geffert (Hopedale, Mass.) for the games only run. Carey finished 2-for-3, as did Geffert to lead the Jacket offense.

Right fielder David Kerlezja (Unionville, Conn.) recorded AIC's only other hit.

On the mound for Pace, Tim Deegan (Levittown, N.Y.) went all eight for the Setters, striking out three and allowing just the one earned in a tough loss.

These two return to action again tomorrow, April 27 for a doubleheader beginning at noon.
