SPRINGFIELD, Mass. American International senior forward Marcus Porter (New Castle, Del.) registered a game-high 28 points, but men's basketball fell to Le Moyne in a Norheast-10 Conference tilt Wednesday night at Butova, Gymnasium, 85-72.
With the loss AIC falls to 4-2 overall and 2-1 in league action, while with the win Le Moyne improves to 7-1 and 3-0 in the NE-10 this year.
The Dolphins fired on all cylinders, shooting nearly 62 percent from the floor in a game they never trailed. Dolphin junior Connor Mahoney (Ambler, Pa.) hit four big three's, while guard classmate Qwadere Lovell (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) recorded 22 points, 12 of them from the charity stripe late in the game as AIC tried to claw its way back into the contest.
Porter kept the Yellow Jackets around in the first half, netting 16 of his 28 points before intermission. He was 6-of-8 from the floor with three 3-pointers as AIC trailed just eight at the break, 44-36.
The Jackets six-point deficit out of the break was the closest they came the rest of the way as the Le Moyne lead hovered around 10 for much of the game.
Porter finished 12-of-20 with seven boards. Junior guard Cameron Dobbs (Albany, N.Y.) knocked down a few from beyond the arc in the early going and finished with 14, while senior Al Shabazz-Jabateh (East Orange, N.J.) chipped in 12 off the bench.
AIC next will travel to Division II's second ranked Southern Connecticut State Owls Saturday, Dec. 6. Tip-off is slated for 3:30 p.m. from New Haven, Conn.
