Men's Basketball outlasts Pace, 71-65

NEW YORK, N.Y. The American International men's basketball team hung on for a Northeast-10 Conference road win Saturday at Pace University and the Goldstein Fitness Center, 71-65.

With the win AIC improves to 6-2 overall and 4-1 in conference play, while with the loss Pace falls to 3-8 and 0-6 in NE-10 action.

The Yellow Jackets took a 9-point lead into the final 4:31 of regulation, but the Setters scored 10 straight in a 2:09 span to go-ahead by one, up 63-62 with 2:11 to play.

AIC outscored Pace 9-2 the rest of the way to hang on in a tightly contested conference road tilt.

Jacket senior Marcus Porter (New Castle, Del.) led the way for AIC with 22 points. He hit 8-of-11 from the floor. AIC had three others reach double figure scoring. Junior guard Cameron Dobbs (Albany, N.Y.) scored 11 of his 13 in the first half. Bobby Harris (Berlin, N.J.) and Trahmier Burrell (Albany, N.Y.) chipped in 10 apiece. As team, AIC shot over 53 percent from the floor. Dobbs knocked down three 3-pointers, all in the first half, off six attempts for the game.

American International led Pace by as many as seven in the first half, but the Setters ended on a 10-0 run to take a 3-point lead into the break, 34-31. The Jackets controlled much of the second half after taking the lead with 15:26 left on a Harris free throw, but the Setters hung around, keeping AIC on its toes.

Burrell led the team with 10 rebounds and notched his third double-double of the year.

AIC held Pace to 42.1 percent shooting, but the Setters did hit nine from beyond the arc to keep pace with the Jackets.

AIC returns to action Wednesday, Dec. 17 on the road at non-conference Dominican. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m.
