BROOKEVILLE, N.Y. The American International men's basketball team used another dominant second half to put away LIU Post in non-conference action Sunday at the Gallagher Center, 77-63.
With the win AIC opens the season 2-0 following yesterday's 84-61 win over the New York Institute of Technology.
The Yellow Jackets closed out a tightly contested first half with a Marcus Porter (New Castle, Del.) layup to pull within one heading into the break, 28-27. Both AIC and the Pioneers shot below 34 percent from the floor, making it difficult for either team to gain a significant edge.
Junior point guard Cameron Dobbs (Albany, N.Y.) hit three-of-five from beyond the arc for 11 of his 14 points in the first half.
AIC got into a rhythm in the second half, shooting an impressive 59.3 percent from the floor. The Jackets outscored LIU 50-35 in the second frame led by 20 from senior guard Bobby Harris (Berlin, N.J.). Harris and Porter finished tied with a game-high 23 points. Junior Trahmier Burrell (Albany, N.Y.) grabbed a game-high 11 boards and score in the win. Harris hit 6-of-9 from the floor and from three point range, whikle connecting on 5-of-6 from the charity stripe.
Neither team played particularly sloppy with AIC recording only 10 turnovers to the Pioneers eight. Although, the Jackets scored 12 points of Post turnovers.
The Yellow Jackets start 2-0 for the first the first time since the 2010-11 campaign when they began 3-0. AIC returns to action Wednesday, Nov. 19 against non-conference Bridgeport for the home opener. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. at Butova Gymnasium.
