BROOKVILLE, N.Y. The American International men's basketball team opened the season with a non-conference win over the New York Institute of Technology Saturday afternoon LIU Post's Pratt Recreation Center, 84-61.
With the win AIC opens the season 1-0 at the 2014 LIU Post Tip-Off Tournament.
Following an eight point halftime lead, the Yellow Jackets used a dominating 37-22 second half to pull away from the Bears. Junior point guard Cameron Dobbs (Albany, N.Y.) scored 13 of his 19 in the second half, while senior forward Marcus Porter (New Castle, Del.) chipped in 10 in the second frame.
AIC never trailed in the contest and turned the ball over eight fewer times than NYIT, scoring 26 points off of Bear giveaways.
The Yellow Jackets shot 50 percent from the floor for the game paced by senior guard Bobby Harris' (Berlin, N.J.) 22 points. Harris hit 4-of-8 from behind the arc, the team went 9-of-21 for nearly a 43 percent clip from three point range. Trahmier Burrell (Albany, N.Y.) recorded a double-double, 11 points and 11 boards as four Jackets put up double digit scoring performances.
The Yellow Jackets return to action tomorrow, Nov. 16 against host LIU Post. Tip-off is slated for 3:30 p.m. from the Pratt Recreation Center.
