Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Magni nets a pair, but Field Hockey falls at St. Mike's, 4-3

COLCHESTER, Vt. American International freshman forward Liv Magni (Sweet Valley, Pa.) brought it within one goal late, but the Yellow Jackets fell in their Northeast-10 opener at Saint Michael's Saturday, 4-3.

With the loss AIC falls to 4-4 and 0-1 in conference play, while with the win St. Mike's improves to 5-3 and 1-1 in the NE-10.

Magni's 68th minute goal was her second of the game and third of the season. Her first strike came 29 seconds after Saint Mike's net their first at the 10:01 mark of the first half. Magni redirected a saved Shea Homer (Glens Falls, N.Y.) shot into the back of the net to knot it up at one apiece.

The Purple Knights went on to score twice more in the first frame, one in the 32nd minute to go into the halftime break up, 3-1.

AIC senior forward Jenna Masionis (Ashland, Mass.) made it a one goal game with her sixth of the season, netting one off a defender to the bottom right of the cage, but Purple Knight Abby Dusha scoed her timely first of the season, the eventual game-winner, and cushioned the St. Mike's lead at two goals.

Yellow Jacket netminder Ainslee Penfield (Greenfield, Mass.) recorded five saves, while AIC notched one team save.

Masionis pounded the Purple Knight net, placing five of her six shots on net.

AIC returns to action next Saturday, Oct. 11 with a Northeast-10 contest at Adelphi. Game-time is set for 1 p.m.
