SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa.-The American International College field hockey team will open their season with two road non-conference contests in the Keystone State as they battle Slippery Rock University today at noon before heading to Seton Hill tomorrow for another noontime matchup against the Griffins.
SETTING THE SCENE: The Yellow Jackets were picked to finish 10th in the Northeast-10 Coaches' Poll following a 3-15 season that included a 2-8 mark in conference play, while Slippery Rock (8-10, 5-5 PSAC in 2012) and Seton Hill (7-11, 3-7 PSAC in 2012) were tabbed 7th and 11th respectively in the PSAC Coaches' Poll for the upcoming 2013 season.
LAST TIME THEY MET: In 2012, the now-graduated Kaitlin McGinnis had a hat trick for the Rock as part of a 6-1 victory on September 2, 2012 at Ronald J. Abdow Field; the Yellow Jackets lone goal was at the 38:30 mark by now-graduated forward
Mackenzie Kewley (Rutland, Mass.) with an assist from sophomore
Emily Kollar (Leighton, Pa.); senior goalkeeper
Kori Huffman (Brattleboro, Vt.) made five saves.
Against Seton Hill last season, sophomore forward Brittany Davis (Greentown, Pa.) had two goals and added an assist for the Griffins in a 6-1 win in the season opener over the Yellow Jackets on September 1, 2012 in Springfield. Now-graduated forward
Lisa Duckles (Netcong, N.J.) scored the sole tally for the Jackets at the 25:54 mark, while Huffman stopped 11 shots.
