PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – The American International College baseball team dropped a Northeast-10 doubleheader at Pace University on Saturday afternoon. The Setters improve to 22-9 overall and 12-4 in the conference, while the Yellow Jackets drop to 13-13 overall and 4-9 in the NE-10.
Pace earned a 6-3 decision in game one, before shutting out AIC 1-0 in the second game.
In game one, the Setters earned an early 1-0 lead in the first inning as senior Brandon Martineson (Prospect, KY) hit an RBI double to right center field.
Freshman
Zach Kane (New London, Conn.) tied the contest at 1-1 in the top of the second inning for AIC as he hit an RBI single down the right field line. The Setters scored two runs in the bottom of the frame to earn the 3-1 lead. Senior Bobby Horn (Stamford, CT) hit an RBI single up the middle, while junior Chris Gili (Manorville, NY) hit a sacrifice fly to right field.
The Setters scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning when Galasso hit a single to left field, while junior James Pjura (Shelton, CT) added the sixth run for Pace as he hit a solo homerun.
Junior
Dan Asselin (Chicopee, Mass.) hit an RBI triple to right center field in the seventh inning, while sophomore
Lucas Vallas (East Northport, N.Y.) hit an RBI double in the eight. AIC came up short dropping a 6-3 decision.
Senior Michael Tamburino (Baldwin, NY) earned the win on the mound for the Setters throwing seven innings and allowing two runs on six hits and fanning seven, while junior
Matt Lee (Stratford, Conn.) took the loss throwing seven innings and allowing six runs on 10 hits.
In game two, the contest remained scoreless until the fifth inning as Martineson singled to right center field and was plated when junior Jon Kovel (Schenectady, NY) grounded out to first base. The Setters would earn a 1-0 victory in game two over the Yellow Jackets.
Senior Neil Pezzulo (Harwich, MA) earned the win for Pace throwing eight innings and allowing two hits and striking out 11, while freshman
Harrison Paige (Springfield, MA.) took the loss throwing eight innings and allowing one run on six hits and struck out three.
AIC will return to Pace tomorrow afternoon for a 12 p.m. Northeast-10 contest.
