SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Freshman A.J. Hall (Millville, Mass.) scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the 11th on a throwing error that landed in the Yellow Jackets dugout that gave the American International College baseball team a 4-3 non-conference win over Assumption College Tuesday afternoon at AIC Park.

The Yellow Jackets trailed 3-2 heading into the bottom of the 11th before sophomore first baseman Mike Coyne (El Cajon, Calif.) doubled to right to scored junior left fielder Dave Clark (West Springfield, Mass.) from second after getting hit by a pitch to start the inning and then advancing to second a sacrifice bunt from sophomore designated hitter Lucas Vallas (East Northport, N.Y.).

Hall then entered the game as a pinch runner and advanced to third following an intentional walk to junior right fielder Dan Asselin (Chicopee, Mass.) and a walk drawn by junior catcher Dan Fenton (Agawam, Mass.) loaded the bases with just one away in the inning. Freshman Eddie Ritch (Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.) then lined out to sophomore right fielder Billy Johnson (Auburn, Mass.) for the second out of the inning.

The Yellow Jackets caught a huge break on that play as both Hall and Fenton were played Ritch's shot halfway and had to get back to their respective bases. Johnson fired to first in an attempt to pick off Fenton and end the inning, but his throw hit Fenton as he dove back into the bag and ricocheted into AIC's dugout and forced Hall across the plate after he returned to third.

Both team scored a run in the first inning before the Yellow Jackets went up 2-1 in the bottom of the third after junior third baseman Cam MacDonald (Weymouth, Mass.) scored from third on passed ball. The score stayed that way until junior center fielder Bret Clark (Bristol, Conn.) doubled to center to score sophomore catcher Ryan Connelly (West Roxbury, Mass.) to tie the ballgame at 2-2. Bret Clark then doubled to left in the top of the 11th to score Connelly again and put Assumption up 3-2.

MacDonald finished the game 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored, while Dave Clark finished 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Coyne was 2-for-5 with a double and one RBI.

Senior Tim Bailey (Chicopee, Mass.) allowed one unearned run in two innings of relief to earn his first win of the season, while senior Dan Bradley (Moodus, Conn.) took the loss after allowing two runs, one earned, in 1.1 innings of relief.

AIC will be back in action Wednesday, hosting a Northeast-10 Southwest Division game against Le Moyne College at 3:30 p.m. at AIC Park.
