SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The American International College field hockey team blanked Adelphi for the second time this season, this time a 1-0 Northeast-10 victory at Abdow Field.
With the win AIC improves to 6-5 overall and 1-2 in conference play, while the loss drops the Panthers to 6-5 and 1-2 in the NE-10, as well.
Yellow Jacket junior forward
Jenna Masionis (Ashland, Mass.) kept her hot streak going, netting her 10th of the season in the 19th minute. Sophomore
Erica McLean (Brandford, Conn.) crossed the ball to her in front of the cage and Masionis finished from there.
AIC senior goalkeeper
Kori Huffman (Brattleboro, Vt.) notched her second career shutout, the first came just a few weeks ago to the same Panther squad. Huffman once again was tested late. Adelphi sophomore and leading scorer Mary Plotas (Brookeville, Md.) made a diving stab in front of the net that the Yellow Jacket keeper would turn away in the 66th minute to preserve the shutout and the win.
Huffman made three saves, while freshman defender
Romane Wilmotte (Brussels, Belgium) also made a team defensive save off a Panther corner attempt.
Adelphi's sophomore keeper Kelly Serrao (Lake Hiawatha, N.J.) made 10 saves as the Yellow Jacketskept her busy, outshooting her squad 20-7.
McLean led the way with seven shots, five on goal, while Masionis added five. Senior
Courtney Williams (Westfield, Mass.) and freshman
Emily Chang (Phoenixville, Pa.) each had two shot attempts for AIC.
The Yellow Jackets return to action Saturday, October 12 when they travel to Rindge, N.H. to take on Franklin Pierce in a Northeast-10 contest slated to start at 1 p.m.
