Penfield Nets Two As Field Hockey Downs Franklin Pierce, 3-2

RINDGE, N.H. The American International College field hockey team traded goals all afternoon, but scored the game-winner in the 64th minute to down Franklin Pierce 3-2 on Saturday afternoon.

With the win AIC improves to 7-5 and 2-2 in the Northeast-10, while with the loss Franklin Pierce falls to 1-10 and 0-5 in conference play.

AIC sophomore Ainslee Penfield's (Greenfield, Mass.) second goal of the day at the 63:44 mark came just 1:38 after Raven Taylor Libby tied it up at two apiece. Penfield was able to score off a rebounded shot and the scramble the that ensued to give the Yellow Jackets the edge and eventually the victory.

She also scored the game's opening goal when junior Jackie Millard (Nassau, N.Y.) fed her a pass in the middle of the circle for Millard's second of the season.

Franklin Pierce would retaliate in the 23rd minute, tying it up at 1-1 with an unassisted goal off the left post and in.

Out of the halftime break, freshman Yellow Jacket Taylor Ruscillo (Carle Place, N.Y.) netted her first collegiate goal off a rebounded Shea Homer (Glens Falls, N.Y.) shot.

Libby would tie it up at 2-2, before Penfield punched in the game-winner.

AIC narrowly outshot the Ravens 11-9. Senior goalkeeper Kori Huffman (Brattleboro, Vt.) made four saves.

AIC next hosts Stonehill on Tuesday, October 15 at Abdow Field, slated to start at 4 p.m.
