Huffman Impresses, But AIC Falls To Stonehill In Double Overtime, 2-1

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. The American International College field hockey team suffered a 2-1 double overtime loss at the hands of Stonehill in a Northeast-10 tilt Tuesday afternoon at Abdow Field.

With the loss the Yellow Jackets fall to 7-6 and 2-3 in NE-10 play, while with the win the Skyhawks improve to 13-0 overall and 6-0 in the conference.

Stonehill junior Emily Sideris (Watertown, Mass.) netted the game-winner 3:41 into the second overtime period to put it away for the Skyhawks. Sideris was able to corral an Erika Kelley (Watertown, Mass.) rebounded shot for the win.

Yellow Jacket junior Jenna Masionis (Ashland, Mass.) netted her team leading 10th of the season to tie it up in the 55th minute. Masionis redirected a freshman Romane Wilmotte (Brussels, Belgium) shot at the 54:32 mark and the rest of regulation played out without resolve.

Skyhawk sophomore forward Lauren Girodano (Watertown, Mass.) scored her sixth of the year off a senior Devin Ingersoll (Londonderry, N.H.) assist in the 30th minute to put Stonehill on the board just before the first half closed.

AIC senior goalkeeper Kori Huffman (Brattleboro, Vt.) kept it close all game, making nine saves and keeping Skyhawk leading scorer, Erika Kelly (24 goals), from adding to her impressive total. Kelly launched eight shots, six on goal, but Huffman was able to keep the ball in front of her.

Skyhawk keeper Elizabeth Genovese (Street, Md.) made four saves as Stonehill outshot AIC, 19-12.

The AIC defense was steadfast all game, only allowing one goal off a penalty corner on a night when Stonehill held the corner advantage at 20-3.

Masionis led the offensive attack with four shots, while sophomore's Ainslee Penfield (Greenfield, Mass.) and Erica McLean (Branford, Conn. Each had two apiece.

AIC returns to action Friday, October 18 when they travel to Waltham, Mass. to take on Bentley in an NE-10 conference tilt slated to start at 7 p.m.
