Penfield Scores Lone Goal In Field Hockey's 8-1 Loss To LIU

BROOKVILLE, N.Y.- American International College sophomore forward Ainslee Penfield (Greenfield, Mass.) scored an early-second half goal, but the Yellow Jackets could not match the fourth-ranked LIU-Post Pioneers in an 8-1 Northeast-10 loss Tuesday afternoon.

With the loss AIC falls to 7-10 overall and 2-7 in the NE-10, while with the win the Pioneers improve to 17-0 and 9-0 in conference play.

The Pioneers scored the first five goals of the game, but at the 38:43 mark, Penfield took the ball on the left flank and fired a reverse sweep into the lower right corner of the cage for her fourth of the season.

LIU had three of their goals scored by the national points leader, senior forward Carlee Dragon (Bridgewater, N.J.), who also added an assist.

In goal, senior Kori Huffman (Brattleboro, Vt.) stopped 11 shots in the loss, giving her 130 saves this season, ranking second in the NE-10 saves leaders. Pioneer Freshman Meredith Stocklin (Mount Laurel, N.J.) made three saves in 35:00 to earn the win, with her classmate, Ericka Parks (Nesconset, N.Y.) making two saves on three shots in 35:00 of relief.

AIC returns home for Senior Day on Saturday, November 2 at 1 p.m. against the Saint Michael's Purple Knights. The Yellow Jackets will honor Huffman and her classmate, midfielder Courtney Williams, in a ceremony before the Northeast-10 contest.
