Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Huffman Brilliant in Field Hockey's 2-1 Loss To Assumption

WORCESTER, Mass.- American International College field hockey senior goalkeeper Kori Huffman (Brattleboro, Vt.) stopped 10 shots, including a string of five saves in under two and a half minutes, but ultimately fell 2-1 to the Assumption Greyhounds Wednesday night.

With the loss AIC falls to 7-8 overall and 2-5 in the NE-10, while with the win the Greyhounds improve to 5-10 and 1-6 in conference play.

The first 41 minutes of the game went without a tally, thanks primarily to Huffman, who had a stretch from the 38:56 mark through the 41:25 mark where she stopped five shots on goal, but the Greyhounds broke through at 42:00 when freshman forward Meghan Sullivan (Worcester, Mass.) tipped home a pass from senior back Bethany Rocha (Lakeville, Mass.).

Assumption would add a second just under ten minutes later when freshman forward Katie Lombardozzi (Bolton, Mass.) redirected a long pass from the top of the circle that came from sophomore midfielder Sarah Frahm (Salem, N.H.) in the 52nd minute.

AIC would get within one at 59:02 when junior forward Jenna Masionis (Ashland, Mass.) netted her team-best 12th score of the year, but the Yellow Jackets rally would fall short.

The Greyhounds owned the shot differential, 22-7, including 14-2 in the second half, with Huffman making 10 saves. Her counterpart, senior Heather Philbrick, improved to 5-8 on the year with two saves on the contest.

The Yellow Jackets return to action Saturday, October 26 at 5 p.m. when they host the Merrimack Warriors for a Northeast-10 contest at Ronald J. Abdow Field.
