NYIT Rallies in Second Half to Top AIC Men's Soccer Team, 2-1

WESTBURY, N.Y. – New York Institute of Technology scored twice in the second half to record a 2-1 non-conference win over the American International College men's soccer team Thursday afternoon. The Bears improved to 1-1-0 with the win, while the Yellow Jackets fell to 0-3-0 with the loss.

Freshman Frazer Cronin (Bromley, England) gave AIC an early 1-0 lead when he tipped the ball over NYIT sophomore keeper Liam Waddy (Northampton, England) off a cross from senior Conor Doyle (Douglas, Isle of Man) just 2:19 into the contest.

The score remained 1-0 in favor of the Yellow Jackets until junior Matt DiDonna (West Islip, N.Y.) headed a cross from senior Staffan Alm (Enkoping, Sweden) into the back of the net 1:44 into the second half to tie the score at 1-all.

The game remained tied through the rest of regulation and almost all of overtime. Junior Herve Valcourt (Queens Village, N.Y.) scored with just 24 seconds left in extra frame off a feed from classmate Vinny Caccavale (West Islip, N.Y.) to win the match for the Bears.

Waddy recorded four saves to earn the decision in goal, while junior Jason Ryan (Peabody, Mass.) had seven stops in taking the loss for AIC.

NYIT outshot the Yellow Jackets 25-5 in the game, but put just nine of those attempts on net. The Yellow Jackets were held to just one shot following the first half. The Bears also took all 10 corner kicks in the game.

AIC will look to get into the win column Saturday when it hosts a non-conference contest against LIU Post at 1 p.m. at Ronald J. Abdow Field.
