Sharman Scores Twice as Men's Soccer Ties Assumption

WORCESTER, Mass. – Freshman forward Ed Sharman (Runbridge Wells, England) scored a pair of goals as the American International College men's soccer team tied Assumption College Sunday afternoon in a Northeast-10 contest.

The Yellow Jackets record now stands at 3-6-1 overall and 3-2-1 in the NE-10, while the Greyhounds are now 3-4-1 overall and 2-3-1 in conference play.

Sharman opened the scoring in the 34th-minute when he scored off a cross from senior Conor Doyle (Douglas, Isle of Man) and he scored again in the 50th-minute when he headed a feed from Doyle into the net, giving AIC what appeared to be a commanding 2-0 lead 4:18 into the second half.

Junior Jose Paulo (Sao Paulo, Brazil) got Assumption on the board in the 60th-minute with an unassisted goal and classmate Michael Agbortoko (Beau, Camerooon) scored in the 67-minute off a lead pass from fellow junior Lucas Spina (Holliston, Mass.) to tie the game at two-all.

The Greyhounds outshot the Yellow Jackets 19-13 in the match, including a 6-3 advantage in the two overtime periods, while AIC had a 4-1 lead in corner kicks.

Junior Jason Ryan (Peabody, Mass.) had six saves in goal for the Yellow Jackets, while freshman Dana King (Windham, Maine) had two stops in net for Assumption.

AIC will next travel to Stonehill College Wednesday for a 4 p.m. Noertheast-10 match.
