Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Huge First Half Lead UMass Lowell Past Men's Soccer Team, 4-1

LOWELL, Mass. – UMass Lowell scored three times in the first 25 minutes on its way to a 4-1 Northeast-10 win over the American International College men's soccer team Tuesday night. The River Hawks improved to 5-0-1 overall and 4-0-0 in the NE-10, while the Yellow Jackets fell to 2-5-0 overall and 2-1-0 in conference play.

Senior Bruno Bonicontro (Marlborough, Mass.) opened the scoring when he headed the ball into the goal 7:41 into the contest and then tallied what would prove to be the game-winner at 19:17 when he sent a lead pass from sophomore Homero Morais (Somerville, Mass.) into the back of the net, giving UMass Lowell an early 2-0 lead. Morais then gave the River Hawks a 3-0 lead at 25:17 and senior Ryan McLeod (Haverhill, Mass.) capped the scoring with just 14 seconds left in the game.

Junior Ike Ekwueme (Manchester, England) scored the lone goal of the game for AIC in the 79th-minute when he sent a thru-ball from senior Conor Doyle (Douglas, Isle of Man) inside the right post for his second goal of the season.

Junior Christopher Maierle (Wantagh, N.Y.) registered three saves to earn the decision in net for UMass Lowell, while fellow junior Jason Ryan (Peabody, Mass.) had just one save in taking the loss for the Yellow Jackets.

The River Hawks outshot AIC 14-8, including an 8-3 margin in the second half, and had a 3-2 edge in corner kicks.

AIC will look to bounce back Sunday when it hosts a 1 p.m. Northeast-10 contest against Merrimack College at Ronald J. Abdow Field.
