Field Hockey Shutout by Merrimack, 6-0

SPRINGFIELD, MA. – The American International College field hockey team dropped a 6-0 non-conference contest against Merrimack College on Saturday afternoon at Ronald J. Abdow field. The Warriors improved to 4-1 overall, while the Yellow Jackets drop to 0-6 overall.

Merrimack scored 19:12 into the first half when junior forward Candace Waldie (North Andover, Mass.) found the back off a dish from senior forward April Daugherty (Wakefield, R.I.).

The Warriors came out strong in the second half. Daugherty increased Merrimack's lead to 2-0 at 46:38 in the contest off a pass from Waldie. Waldie then scored her second goal of the game at 56:15 to move the Warriors to 3-0.

Merrimack went on to score three more goals to earn a 6-0 victory over AIC.

Waldie tallied two goals and two assists, while Daugherty had two goals and one assist for the afternoon.

Senior goalie Kerri Bergquist (Mashpee, Mass.) made three saves, while junior goalie Kori Huffman (Brattleboro, Vt.) had a total of 13 saves in the loss.

Merrimack outshot AIC 30-5 and held a 18-3 advantage in penalty corners.

The Yellow Jackets will host Adelphi on Tuesday afternoon for a 4 p.m. non-conference contest at Ronald J. Abdow field.
