Field Hockey Drops 2012 Season-Opener vs. Seton Hill, 6-1

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The American International College field hockey team dropped a 6-1 non-conference contest against Seton Hill University on Saturday afternoon in the first game of the season for both teams.

The Griffins started out to an early 2-0 lead as freshman forward Brittany Davis (Greentown, Pa.) scored two goals at 5:10 and 7:39 in the first half. The Yellow Jackets inched within one when senior midfield Lisa Duckles (Netcong, N.J.) found the back of the net at 25:54 for AIC's lone goal of the game.

Seton Hill went on to score four more goals to earn a 6-1 victory over the Yellow Jackets.

Junior goalie Rebecca Portillo (Lusby, Md.) played a total of 35:00 minutes for the Griffins to earn the win between the pipes making six saves, while sophomore goalie Kori Huffman (Brattleboro, Vt.) took the loss making 11 saves for AIC.

Seton Hill outshot the Yellow Jackets 26-17, while AIC held a 10-9 advantage in corners.

The Yellow Jackets will host Slippery Rock on Sunday afternoon for a 1 p.m. non-conference contest at Ronald J. abdow field.
