SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Assumption College plated four runs in the top of the ninth to overcome a 7-6 deficit and rally for a 10-7 Northeast-10 Southwest Division win over the American International College baseball team Tuesday afternoon at AIC Park.

The Greyhounds improved to 9-19 overall, 3-12 in the Northeast-10 and 3-6 in the Southwest Division, while the Yellow Jackets fell to 11-19-1 overall, 4-13-1 in conference play and 1-8-1 in the division.

It looked as though Assumption may run away with the game after staking itself to a 6-1 lead through four and a half innings, but AIC plated a pair of runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings to take a 7-6 lead.

Senior second baseman Dennis Duffy (Warwick, R.I.) got the scoring started when he drove in sophomore catcher Dan Fenton (Agawam, Mass.) and an error on the play allowed sophomore center fielder Dan Asselin (Chicopee, Mass.) to also score to cut the deficit to 6-3.

Junior shortstop Chris Amate (Hanover, Mass.) scored in the bottom of the sixth on senior first baseman Julian Concepcion's (Woodstock Valley, Conn.) ground out to seconds to make it a 6-4 contest. Freshman designated hitter Lucas Vallas (East Northport, N.Y.) then ripped a ground rule double down the left field line and later scored as Fenton reached on an error to make it a one-run game after six.

Asselin walked to lead off the seventh, advanced to second on Duffy's sacrifice bunt and then scored on sophomore third baseman Dave Clark's (West Springfield, Mass.) single through the right side to tie the game at 6-6. Sophomore right fielder Matt Consigli (Whitinsville, Mass.) bobbled the ball on Clark's single, allowing him to advance all the way to third and then score on Amate's single to left to give the Yellow Jackets their only lead of the game.

The lead lasted until the top of the ninth when the Greyhounds took advantage of two throwing errors to score four times and regain the lead for good. Freshman second baseman Kelvin Sims (Manchester, Conn.) reached on an error to start the inning and scored the game-tying run on junior first baseman Joe Lopes (Warwick, R.I.) single to left.

A second error put runners on second and third with no outs for Consigli, who drove a double to the gap in left center that plated pinch runner Zachary Bombard (Belchertown, Mass.) and Lopes. Consigli then scored as junior shortstop Shane Keddy (Worcester, Mass.) singled up the middle for the 10-7 final.

AIC managed just one hit in the bottom of the ninth, a double down the left field line from Clark, before Amate flied out to center to end the game.

Sophomore reliever Cody Rocha (Fall River, Mass.) allowed just two hits in two and two-third innings to earn the win on the hill. Senior Tim Bailey (Chicopee, Mass.) suffered the loss after allowing four runs on four hits in the ninth.

Keddy got Assumption on the board in the top of the first with a two-run blast that just cleared the fence down the right field line and sophomore center fielder Ysander Figueroa (Worcester, Mass.) delivered a two-run shot of his own in the second and senior catcher Tim Quinn (Paxton, Mass.) led off the third with a solo homer.

AIC got on the board in the bottom of the first as Clark tripled to center and scored on Amate's ground out to shortstop.
