SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The American International College baseball team dropped a Northeast-10 doubleheader at AIC Park on Saturday afternoon. The Setters move to 19-14 overall and 9-7 in the Northeast-10, while the Yellow Jackets drop to 11-17-1 overall and 4-11-1 in conference play.
Pace scored an early run in the first inning when senior Patrick Chaputian (Sea Cliff, NY) singled to left center and was plated on classmate Tyler Collins (Stamford, CT) single to the left side. The Setters scored three runs in the top of the second inning to earn a 4-0 lead.
Senior first basemen
Julian Concepcion (Woodstock Valley, Conn.) put AIC on the board when he hit a solo homerun in the bottom of the third inning to make it a 4-1 contest. Pace went on to score five more runs to earn a 9-1 victory in game one.
Junior Michael Tamburino (Baldwin, NY) earned the win for the Setters threw a complete game allowing one run on four hits while striking out 13. Senior
John Hanna took the loss on the mound throwing 6.0 innings allowing eight runs on 13 hits.
In game-two, sophomore
Dave Clark (West Springfield, Mass.) hit an RBI double in the bottom of the first inning, while freshman
Lucas Vallas (East Northport, N.Y.) hit an RBI single to earn a 2-0 lead for the Yellow Jackets.
Pace scored a run in the top of the third inning. Sophomore James Pjura (Shelton, CT) hit an RBI singled to left field to tie the contest in the top of the sixth. Sophomore Chris Gili (Waccabuc, NY) hit a two RBI double to left field to earn a 4-2 lead. Graduate student Chris Roemer (Ardsley, NY) hit an RBI singled to right center to push the Setters lead to 5-2.
Vallas walked in the bottom of the sixth, while sophomore center fielder
Dan Asselin (Chicopee, Mass.) hit a sacrifice fly to right field to plate Vallas. Freshman
David Kerlejza (Unionville, Conn.) scored the Yellow Jackets last run in the bottom of the ninth inning when he hit a double to right field and later crossed home.
