Baseball Team Closes Southern Trip with 6-0 Loss to New Haven

Box Score

LANTANA, Fla. – The American International College baseball team dropped a 6-0 non-conference decision to the University of New Haven Friday afternoon in the final game of its spring break trip to Florida. The Chargers improved to 7-3 with the win, while the Yellow Jackets fell to 5-5.

New Haven scored the only run it would need in the bottom of the first as junior right fielder Stephen Clout (Bristol, Conn.) was hit by a pitch to start the frame and later scored on senior shortstop Ryan Brockett's (Guilford, Conn.) single. The Chargers then pulled away by scoring a pair of runs in the fourth and seventh innings and plated an additional run in the sixth.

Four New Haven pitchers combined for the seven-hit shutout. Junior reliever Frank Vilacha (Dartmouth, Mass.) earned the decision after tossing a scoreless fifth inning after sophomore starter Henry Hirsh (Scarsdale, N.Y.) scattered three hits over four innings with two strikeouts.

Freshman designated hitter Zach Collett (Westbrook, Maine) went 4-for-4 with two runs scored and one driven in, while freshman center fielder Brendan O'Reilly (Devon, Pa.) went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Sophomore starter Daniel Guerrero (Elizabeth, N.J.) took the loss for the AIC after giving up four runs (two earned) on nine hits in 5.2 innings of work. Junior shortstop Chris Amate (Hanover, Mass.) had the only multi-hit game for the Yellow Jackets, going 2-for-4 with a stolen base.

AIC will next travel to Assumption College Wednesday for a 3:30 p.m. non-conference contest.
