Baseball Edged by Saint Thomas Aquinas and Nyack

Box Score - Nyack

LANATA, Fla. – The American International College baseball team dropped a pair of one-run games to fall to 3-3 for the season, dropping a 1-0 decision to Saint Thomas Aquinas College and a 6-5 decision to Nyack College.

The game against Saint Thomas Aquinas was scoreless until freshman Derek Hirsch (Roslyn, N.Y.) ripped an RBI double in the seventh to bring home senior Matt Marotta (Suffern, N.Y.) for the only run of the game.

The Yellow Jackets trailed Nyack 5-3 heading into the top of the sixth when AIC plated a pair of runs to tie the game. Senior first baseman Julian Concepcion (Woodstock Valley, Conn.) scored on a passed ball and junior shortstop Chris Amate (Hanover, Mass.) reached on a fielder's choice to score freshman Matt Coyne (El Cajon, Calif.).

The score remained tied until the bottom of the ninth when junior Timothy Briggs (Flagstaff, Ariz.) singled to drive in junior Phil Delisle (Quebec, Q.C.), who led off the inning with a triple, with the game-winning run.

Amate finished the game 2-for-5 at the plate with two runs scored and one driven in, while designated hitter Dave Clark (West Springfield, Mass.) went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Sophomore right fielder Dave Julian (Sterling, Mass.) was also 2-for-3 for the game.

AIC will next face Adelphi University Wednesday in a 3 p.m. non-conference contest.
