Baseball Team Squeezes Out 4-3 Walk-Off Win Over Adelphi

Box Score

LANTANA, Fla. – Junior shortstop Chris Amate (Hanover, Mass.) scored on a suicide squeeze in the bottom of the 10th to give the American international College baseball team a 4-3 walk-off victory over Adelphi University Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference contest.

The Yellow Jackets (4-3) led 1-0 after Amate scored on sophomore second baseman Cam MacDonald's (Weymouth, Mass.) single to left in the bottom of the first and the score remained that way until the eighth when sophomore Dave Clark (West Springfield, Mass.) doubled to drive in senior fielder Dennis Duffy (Warwick, R.I.) to give AIC a 2-0 lead.

The Panthers (6-3) rallied to tie the game in the top of the ninth after freshman third baseman Donato Signore (Bronx, N.Y.) and junior first baseman Anthony Zarrella (Holbrook, N.Y.) scored on wild pitches, and then took a 3-2 lead when sophomore right fielder John Campbell (Hatfield, Pa.) scored on an error in top of the 10th.

The Yellow Jackets then tied the game in the bottom half of the frame when Clark singled up the middle to score Zach LeBlanc () and advance Amate to third. MacDonald then laid down a bunt as Amate broke for home with the game-winning run.

Senior reliever Tim Bailey (Chicopee, Mass.) earned the win after allowing one run in 1.1 innings of work after junior Matt Lee (Stratford, Conn.) allowed two runs on seven hits in 8.2 innings. Sophomore Matt Abramowitz (Staten Island, N.Y.) suffered the loss after allowing three runs in 2.1 innings of relief. Senior Michael Carletti (Staten Island, N.Y.) had a strong outing for Adelphi, giving up just one unearned run on four hits in seven innings.

Clark and MacDonald both finished 2-for-5 with two RBI, while Amate was 1-for-4 with two runs scored.

AIC will next take on Stonehill College Thursday at noon in a non-conference contest in Florida.
