SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The American International College men's basketball team opened the game with a 15-4 run and never looked back on its way to easily defeating visiting New York Institute of Technology Saturday afternoon in a non-conference contest at Henry A. Butova Gymnasium. Both teams are now 2-1 for the season.

Junior guard Jason Perrier (Bridgeport, Conn.) scored a game-high 18 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the field with three threes to lead the Yellow Jackets. He also pulled down seven rebounds in the contest. Senior guard Ricky Hudson (Sewell, N.J.) scored 14 points while also going 6-of-10 from the floor with one three.

Junior guard Spencer Braithwaite (Dorchester, Mass.) scored 11 points with a game-high seven assists, while fellow junior guard Janek Schmidkunz (Berlin, Germany) also netted 11 points to go with four assists and two boards coming off the bench. Junior forward Mark Ellis Jr. (Stratford, Conn.) chipped in with nine points off the bench.

Junior guard Erick Satchell (Waldorf, Md.) scored 11 points with three assists off the bench to lead the Bears, who suffered their first loss of the season. Junior forward Marcus Moore (Palo Alto, Calif.), junior guard Jordan Fuselier (Lafayette, La.) and sophomore forward Will Udoh (Laurel, Md.) scored eight points apiece.

AIC shot 47.8 percent (32-67) from the field and 40 percent (10-25) from three-point range in the game, while NYIT shot just 35.8 percent (19-53) from the floor and 33.3 percent (5-15) from downtown.

The Yellow Jackets scored 18 points off 16 Bear turnovers and outscored NYIT 28-16 in the paint.

AIC will next travel to Pace University Tuesday for a 7:30 p.m. Northeast-10 contest.
