NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – Seventh-ranked Merrimack College scored three goals in the first 15 minutes as it defeated the American International College field hockey team a 4-1 Saturday afternoon in the Northeast-10 contest.

The Warriors improved to 13-2 for the season and 7-1 in the Northeast-10 with the win, while the Yellow Jackets fell to 3-12 overall and 2-5 in conference play.

Senior forward April Daugherty (Wakefield, R.I.) put Merrimack on the board 4:32 into the contest, deflecting a shot from senior Jen Otis (Penacook, N.H.) past AIC junior goalkeeper Kori Huffman (Brattleboro, Vt.) to give the Warriors the lead. Junior Candace Waldie (North Andover, Mass.) found the back of the cage twice in a span of 1:22 to give Merrimack a 3-0 lead at the break and she added her third in a row 12:40 into the second half to give the Warriors a commanding 4-0 advantage.

Sophomore Jenna Masionis (Ashland, Mass.) ended Merrimack senior goalkeeper Keri Bergquist's (Mashpee, Mass.) bid for a shutout with 7:25 left in the game when she blasted a shot from the top of the circle inside the right post for the 4-1 final.

Bergquist tallied four saves to earn the decision in goal, improving her record to 13-2. Huffman had 13 saves in taking the loss as her record fell to 3-12.

Merrimack outshot AIC 41-12 in the game and had a 10-5 advantage on penalty corners.

The Yellow Jackets will next travel to Adelphi University Tuesday for a 7 p.mn. Northeast-10 match.
