SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The American International College basketball teams will return to action for the first time in three weeks when they travel to UMass Lowell tonight for a Northeast-10 doubleheader that starts at 5:30 p.m.
The women's basketball team last played on December 10, dropping a 58-42 NE-10 contest at Saint Rose that dropped its record to 3-8 overall and 2-5 in league play. The Yellow Jackets have dropped three in a row since posting a 55-45 conference win at Le Moyne November 30, 2011.
The River Hawks are 4-7 on the season after dropping a pair of decisions at the C.W. Post Winter Classic just before the New Year. UMass Lowell dropped a 93-69 decision to the Host Pioneers December 29 and then fell to District of Columbia 71-65 December 30. The River Hawks are 3-4 in the NE-10 and have won two straight conference games, beating Saint Anselm 60-57 December 7 and then No. 12 Franklin Pierce 77-65 December 10 at home.
AIC is 4-7 overall and 2-5 in the NE-10 on the men's side this season entering tonight's 7:30 p.m. contest. The Yellow Jackets rallied for a 67-61 non-conference win over Philadelphia at the 2011 Basketball Hall of Fame Showcase December 9 before falling 65-41 in a conference game at Saint Rose December 11 and dropping a 66-52 non-conference contest at Dowling December 14 to close out 2011.
UMass Lowell's men's squad ended a three-week break of its own with a 109-81 non-conference win over Concordia (N.Y.) December 31. The River Hawks have won three of their last four games to improve to 7-4 overall and 3-4 in conference play.
Next on the agenda for AIC with be the Yellow Jackets' return to Henry A. Butova Gymnasium Sunday when they host a Northeast-10 twin bill against Saint Anselm. The women's game will get underway at 1:30 p.m. and the men's game is set to tip off at 3:30 p.m.
