WOMEN'S GAME NOTES
ABOUT AIC (5-8, 4-5 NE-10): The Yellow Jackets are 2-0 to start the New Year after registering a 62-47 win over Saint Anselm Sunday afternoon. Senior guard Michelle Lafond scored a game-high 17 points to lead AIC, while senior forward Rhea Pascal added 14 points with seven boards. Senior guard Marie Li Sicard came off the bench to score 14 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the field with two threes while grabbing four rebounds and dishing out three assists. AIC is averaging 70.5 points per game while shooting 45 percent from the field, 41 percent from three and 83 percent at the line in its last two games, a huge improvement over the team's 3-8 start in which it averaged 58 points per game while shooting 35 percent from the field, 37 percent from three and 70 percent at the line. Lafond leads the team in scoring at 15.8 points per game, while Pascal is second at 11.4 points per game while leading the team in rebounding with 9.2 boards per contest. Freshman guard Alyssa Roach leads the team with 48 assists and 17 steals while averaging 8.8 points and 3.3 rebounds per game. Sicard is averaging 8.4 points and 5.3 rebounds per game coming off the bench to go with 33 assists and 14 steals.
SICARD ON HONOR ROLL: Sicard earned a spot on the NE-10 Honor Roll after coming off to bench to average 16.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.5 steals per game while shooting 56.0 percent (14-25) from the field in a 2-0 week for AIC. She scored 18 points with 10 boards, four assists and four steals in a win at UMass Lowell and netted 14 points with four rebounds and four assists in a win over Saint Anselm.
ABOUT BENTLEY (12-2, 8-1 NE-10): The Falcons, who are ranked ninth in the latest USA Today Coaches Poll, enter today's game with an overall record of 12-2 and are 8-1 in the Northeast-10 after dropping a 79-68 conference contest at Pace Saturday afternoon. Bentley's only other loss was an 85-71 setback at C.W. Post. Sophomore forward Lauren Battista leads the team in scoring and rebounding with 20.1 points and 7.9 boards per game and is shooting a team-best 56.5 percent from the field. Sophomore forward Jacqui Brugliera is averaging 11.6 points and 6.3 rebounds per contest, while Courtney Finn is averaging 10.1 points and 4.6 rebounds per game. As a team, the Falcons are averaging 72.8 points per game while shooting 42.3 percent from the floor.
Last time they met: Adriana Johnson posted a double-double with game-high totals of 22 points and 12 rebounds to lead AIC to a 60-53 victory at then 15th-ranked Bentley January 11, 2011, and in doing so handed the Falcons their first conference loss of last season. Pascal also tallied a double-double for the Yellow Jackets, scoring 17 points and grabbing 10 boards to go with three assists and two steals, while Lafond chipped in with 12 points. Battista scored 13 points with eight rebounds to lead Bentley, while Brugliera netted 11 points with four rebounds.
MEN'S GAME NOTES
ABOUT AIC (4-9, 2-7 NE-10): The Yellow Jackets dropped a 54-51 decision to Saint Anselm Sunday, marking the team's fourth straight loss and its seventh in nine game. Neither team led by more than five in the first half and AIC held a slim 26-45 lead at the intermission. Saint Anselm held a 35-33 advantage six minutes into the second half before breaking the game open with a 17-1 to open a 52-34 lead with seven minutes to go in the game. The Yellow Jackets closed the game with a 17-2 run, but went scoreless for the final 1:25 as the Hawks held on for the win. Sophomore guard
Spencer Braithwaite leads the team in scoring at 12.5 points per game while registering team-high totals of 41 assists and 19 steals. Sophomore guard
Janek Schmidkunz is averaging 8.4 points per game is the teams top three-points shooter with 28 made threes and a 40 percent three-point shooting percentage. As a team, AIC is averaging 58.8 points per game while shooting 41 percent from the field and 32.2 percent from three.
WEEKLY HONORS FOR BRAITHWAITE: Braithwaite earned a spot on the NE-10 Honor Roll averaged 19.5 points and 5.0 assists per game, while shooting 45.7 percent from the field AIC's first two games of the New Year. He scored a career-high 26 points at UMass Lowell.
ABOUT BENTLEY (10-3, 6-3 NE-10): The Falcons enter tonight's contest with an overall record of 10-3 for the season and are 6-3 in the NE-10 after dropping a 84-74 conference contest at Pace Saturday. Jasper Grassa leads the team in scoring with 15.1 points per game and is averagign 4.8 rebounds per contest to go with 35 assists and 12 steals. Sam Leclerc is averaging 14.2 points and 6.2 rebounds per game, while Dan O'Keefe is averaging 13.8 points and a team-best 6.8 rebounds per contest. Greg Jacques is averaging 8.7 points per game and leads the team with 63 assists. As a team, Bentley is averaging 73.7 points per game while shooting 41.6 percent from the field and 36.6 percent from three.
LAST TIME THEY MET: Then No. 22 Bentley closed the game with a 6-0 run to record an 87-81 double-overtime win over AIC January 11, 2011. Brian Tracey scored a game-high 27 points on 10-of-16 shooting from the field and a 6-for-6 performance from the free throw line to lead the Falcons. He also had six rebounds in the game. Tom Dowling scored 15 points with three boards, while Jacques added 12 points with five rebounds and five assists.
Allen Aragbaye and
Isiah Wallace scored 20 points each for the Yellow Jackets. Aragbaye also pulled down seven rebounds with four steals and three assists, while Wallace grabbed six boards.
ROAD AHEAD: The Yellow Jackets will travel to Saint Michael's (January 14) and Stonehill (January 17) for a pair of NE-10 doubleheaders before returning him to host a conference twin bill against Merrimack January 21.
