Men's Basketball Stings Southern New Hampshire, 78-66

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The American International College men's basketball team outscored host Southern New Hampshire University 34-18 in the first half on its way to a 78-66 Northeast-10 victory Saturday afternoon.

The Yellow Jackets improved to 6-13 overall and 4-11 in the Northeast-10 with their second straight win, while the Penmen fell to 11-9 overall and 7-8 in conference play.

Graduate guard Sesoo Ikpah (Williamstown, N.J.) led all scorers with 21 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the field with a three and a 6-for-7 showing at the line. Sophomore guard Spencer Braithwaite (Dorchester, Mass.) scored 15 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the field with two threes and made all three free throws, while sophomore guard Janek Schmidkunz (Berlin, Germany) scored 15 points on a 5-for-8 performance from three.

Freshman guard/forward Elijah Bonsignore (Felton, Del.) scored 14 points with seven rebounds, four assists and three blocks to lead SNHU. Senior guard/forward Tory Stapleton (Rahway, N.J.), junior guard Greg DeSantis (Trumbull, Conn.) and freshman forward B.J. Cardarelli (Manchester, N.H.) contributed 12 points each.

The Yellow Jackets never trailed in the game, opening the contest with a 13-4 run and then blew the game open with an 11-0 lead to go up 29-8 with 4:15 left in the first half. AIC led by double-digits the rest of the way and led by as many as 22 in the second half, 64-42 with 7:44 to go in the second half.

The Yellow Jackets shot 59.6 percent (28-47) from the field, 56.3 percent (9-16) from beyond the arc an 81.3 percent (13-16) from three, while the Penmen shot 52 percent (26-50) from the field, 45.5 percent (10-22) from three and were 4-of-8 at the line.

AIC will next travel to Pace University January 31 for a 7:30 p.m. Northeast-10 contest.
