SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The American International College field hockey team recorded a 3-2 double-overtime victory over Lindenwood University on Saturday afternoon in a non-conference contest. The Yellow Jackets improve to 6-3 overall, while the Lions fall to 0-6 overall.
AIC got out to an early 2-0 lead when senior midfielder
Jessica Hall (Higganum, Conn.) scored at 9:44 in the first half and then again not even a minute later at 10:31.
Lindenwood's junior forward Kundai Musarurwa (Harare, Zimbabwe) found the back of the net 53:13 to inch within one to make the game a 2-1 contest. Junior defenseman Erin de Jesus (Harare, Zimbabwe) tied the game with only 7:76 left in the contest. Time ran out sending the contest into overtime.
The game remained 2-2 through the first overtime. Junior midfielder
Lisa Duckles (Netcong, N.J.) netted the game winning goal at 86:46 to earn the 3-2 victory over the Lions.
Senior goalkeeper
Kim Steiner (Little Falls, N.Y.) made 10 saves to earn the decision in the net for the Yellow Jackets, while senior goalkeeper Samantha Brown (Harare, Zimbabwe) made 13 saves in the loss.
AIC outshot Lindenwood 27-17 and held a 21-9 advantage in corners.
AIC will return to action on October 1 when they host Saint Michael's College for a 1 p.m. Northeast-10 contest.
