Field Hockey Explodes for Six Second Half Goals in 8-2 Win Over SCSU

Box Score

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The American International College field hockey team scored six times in the second half to record an 8-2 non-conference win over Southern Connecticut State University Wednesday night at Ronald J. Abdow Field.

The Yellow Jackets improved to 3-2 for the season with the victory, while the Owls record fell to 2-4. The Eight AIC goals scored were just one off the school-record of nine goals scored in a single game.

Seven different players scored a goal in the game for the Yellow Jackets, junior forward Mackenzie Kewley (Rutland, Mass.) was the only multi-goal scorer with two on the night. Senior forward Jessica Hall (Higganum, Conn.) and freshman forward Jenna Masionis (Ashland, Mass.) each scored one goal with two assists.

Senior forward Amanda McLean (Branford, Conn.) opened the scoring 6:17 into the game to give AIC a 1-0 lead, but junior midfielder Paige Donlin (South Glastonbury, Conn.) answered seven minutes later to tie the game.

Kewley broke the tie in the 19th minute with the first of her two goals, but a Yellow Jacket turnover in the led to a breakaway for junior forward Erica Fisher (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) and she put the shot home to tie the game with 3:03 left in the first half.

The game was tied at two at the half despite the Yellow Jackets outshooting the Owls 23-4 and owning a 6-2 advantage in penalty corners.

The second half was a different story as Hall scored just 1:48 in the period to start a six-goal outburst for AIC.

Senior goalkeeper Kim Steiner (Little Falls, N.Y.) recorded two saves, both in the second half, to earn the decision in goal for the Yellow Jackets, while sophomore goalkeeper Robin Donaldson (Canton, Conn.) had 16 saves in 39:30 in taking the loss for SCSU.

AIC outshot the Owls 44-9 in the game, setting the team record for shots in a single game, and had a 10-5 advantage in penalty corners.

The Yellow Jackets will next travel to Merrimack College Saturday for a 6 p.m. non-conference contest.
